Tempus is one of a number of European Community programmes designed to help the process of social and economic reform and/or development in the EU partner countries. The partner countries currently included are the western Balkan Countries, the Eastern European and Central Asian countries and the Mediterranean Partners. The Tempus Programme focuses on the development of the higher education systems in these countries through cooperation with institutions from the EU Member States.
The ETF assisted the European Commission in the implementation of the Tempus Programme from January 1995 to June 2008. We provided the general overall framework in terms of infrastructure, human resources and administrative support for all different Tempus operations. The support provided by the ETF Tempus department covered the full project cycle. It therefore comprised selection, contract management and monitoring, information and publications, including general administrative support.
On 1 July 2008 ETF's work has been taken over by the Education, Audivisual and Culture Executive Agency in Brussels.
